In the creative process of UNFIGURE, I’m not trying to transform his works to a dance, but confronting his spirits and questioning at each creation.

Human bodies depicted by Francis Bacon (1909 – 1992) are extremely disfigured or fragmented in many of his works. These figures are often confined in small frames as though just about screaming.

I first encountered his works in New York and they grabbed my heart. Bacon fascinated me furthermore when I was in London and made me start a self-investigation whether I could find some connections between his works and my own physicality.

Introduction

UNFIGURE is a dance art project, dealing with the paintings of Francis Bacon, figurative painter, as a theme.

"unfigure" is no longer the name of group only; it represents the fundamental theme "the truth of human beings” and our bodies themselves as a medium.
